Nokia E7 – Beautiful Business Companion

Category: Mobile Phones,Nokia,Review,Symbianksg91 @ 10:25 pm

It’s been many days since I have had Nokia E7 in my hand, but couldn’t post the review. Well, I have been little busy with college because term end came and submission and all that started. Anyway, I am writing review now. Few weeks ago WOMWorldNokia (now @Nokia_Connects ) sent me a review unit of Nokia E7 and I am still playing around with it. My Nokia  N8 is still at Nokia Care for last couple of weeks as for further service and due to holidays of Diwali. So I was completely over Nokia E7 and being one and only phone with me, I got to know it much deeply than I may have got along with N8.  All I can say now is, it was very nice time with Nokia E7.

Anyways, I have been user of Nokia N8 for more than a year now and Nokia E7, like a cousin of Nokia N8, contains many similarities with Nokia N8 in design and spces, so my review will take many points of the devices from the perspective of a Nokia N8 user.

Review: Nokia BH-905i Walkthrough

Category: Nokia,Reviewksg91 @ 2:43 pm

Brief History

If you have read my post I posted two weeks ago, you may remember that I got Nokia BH-905i with a review unit of Nokia E7. I really thank kind guys at WOMWorldNokia for sending me this along with Nokia E7 even without me asking for it. I am really grateful for this.

About BH-905i

No matter if you are an office person or random guy, you use phone either to listen to music or for call purpose quite often and having a wireless headset may look quite pleasant. At the same time, cordless headset brings the fear of low quality audio to mind. Well that was the past; nowadays you find many Bluetooth Stereo Headsets offering great sound quality rival to the wired stereo headset. When you are considering such headsets, you may no miss to count Nokia BH-905i. BH-905i is the successor of BH-905 with many improvements to its design and quality.

BH-905i possesses some impressive specifications. One of that is Active Noise Cancellation with it’s 8 dedicated microphones to cancel out background noise and 2 microphones for speech capturing and advance digital signal processing providing you clear communication experiences. Other features are nice audio quality, elegant design, wide compatibility, etc. But does it meet all our expectation very well? Let’s see.

New Nokia Store

Category: Mobile Phones,Nokia,Symbianksg91 @ 4:17 pm

After Nokia announcing dropping of Ovi branding, you will have seen Ovi being dropped gradually, first social accounts then website etc, and finally Ovi Store is going to be replaced by Nokia Store.

Before Nokia Store is pushed as Software Update, Nokia has given its sneak peak to its betalab testers.

Nokia said on Betalabs:

We are offering members of the Nokia Beta Labs community a preview of the new Store client.  Please help us in testing it before it is deployed in a software update.

This beta Store client will replace the current Store client on your Symbian^3 or Symbian Anna device, and it supports nearly all of the features as the official Store client (Web Runtime).  The key new features this client brings include:

  • Easier navigation
  • Improved product details view, for a rich and fluid discovery experience
  • Quicker, smoother and more responsive than WRT client

This new Nokia Store has Symbian Belle look. You can see that Belle style Status Bar and Toolbar at bottom.  New store is made using QML components. Looks is quite stylish and smoother experience. Now there is no more blank tables when apps are being loaded but it is replaced by a rotating animation.

Well, seeing all these updates coming soon, I can say, we, N8 and first batch of S^3 devices, are getting Symbian Belle soon. 😀

Weird Bug in WordPress for Nokia

Category: App,bug,Mobile Phones,Nokiaksg91 @ 12:00 pm

Blogging and WordPress is something you can’t separate. So how can I? I started blogging last month using WordPress and being user of  Wordpress, I started using WordPress for Nokia. It was solely used for checking comments or similar because writing a blog post is quite boring for me on mobile phones. While using it for few days, I discovered a weird bug.

While using WordPress for some days, I had to change my admin password. But when I started WordPress for Nokia after changing password, it showed me error, Username/Password do not match. (Yeah, I know thats obvious). But on start up it kept showing this error for each operation it does on start up like fetching comments, fetching pages, fetching post etc. This is little weird.

My point is, if app has already found that Username/Password is not matching, why is it still trying to do all those operations? I think, developer should have took care for this.

I know you guys gonna ask what is so weird about this, right? Correct, real weird bug comes after that. After all those operations finishes, WordPress for Nokia comes back to its splash screen (as showed at the starting of post) and stays there for forever! Only thing we can do is to kill/close the app! It doesn’t even ask for new Username/Password, it goes forward neither! This is really annoying.

Reinstalling the app should fix this.  I wish that these bugs are fixed in next build.

How To Enable New Facebook Timeline

Category: Tips & Tricksksg91 @ 11:54 pm

After Google coming to Social Networking with its Google+ service, you must have noticed Facebook frequently making changes to its features and layouts. But you must be surprised to see dramatic changes Facebook took to user profiles, i.e Timeline.

According to  Facebook,

Tell your life story with a new kind of profile

Here is a screenshot of new profile:
Facebook Timeline
Well, I am not going deep about what changes does this timeline takes, but how to enable it. You can read more about this timeline at http://www.facebook.com/about/timeline

This timeline is currently available to developers only and for everyone it will be available soon. So those who can’t wait should follow simple step explained below. But for this you must have a verified account, i.e. verified phone number or credit card.

This is for developers only and I do not recommend using it unless you are a developer.

Follow steps below to get it:

  1. You need to login first.
  2. Enable Developer mode by going to https://developers.facebook.com/apps  and allow permissions.
  3. Now what you need to do is to create an app. Fill all necessary details. (Don’t worry, you dont need to publish it)
  4. Go to main setting screen of your app and under Open Graph header, you will find Get Started link. Click it
  5. You are asked to add an action and an object ( on which that action is being performed). Add any verb and subject there.
  6. Keep saving and going next, putting all things to default values.
  7. Once finished saving setting on all three pages, go back to Facebook’s Home page.
  8. You will get an invitation to try new Timeline feature. Accept it.
  9. You are done! 😀
To see your new profile you need to open http://www.facebook.com/USERNAME?sk=timeline if you are not getting timelines after applying above steps.
Your new timeline will be visible to you only until you publish it, though only developers with timeline feature will be able to see it after publishing. If you do not publish, it will be set to be public after a week.

This new profile is nice. I like it. I can see some new things coming to Facebook after this. Lets see what comes.

Just say what do you feel about this new timeline profile? And you can ask me if you are having any trouble using it.

PS: Don’t mind my writing, I am quite sleepy. 😛

This Is Why I Love Nokia!

Category: Mobile Phones,Nokiaksg91 @ 8:39 pm

It was the era when Mobile Phones came to India and they were something everybody wanted to have one but not affordable to everyone! And finally we decided to buy a phone. The only company that was known those days was Nokia and so we bought Nokia 3310. And the story started. Its been about 10 years and I still remember those days. Since then, I have been using various Nokia phones till date and quite obsessed with them. There lies a Nokia fan here. I have several big debates with friends in real life or online, all they say is Nokia is not so good! But I never let them win those debates! 😛

Ok, it seems I am boring you, lets come to the point, why I love Nokia. Nokia is not so famous just for producing nice Phone but something, that many companies fail to have, i.e. after-sales service, great customer support and customer relationship. This is what has made them be the most trusted brand in India. There have been many incidence that really made me a Nokia Fan and not to mention all, I am just wanna share what they did for me today.

Those who love Nokia may probably know WOMWorld/Nokia pretty well. Those who don’t know, WOMWorld/Nokia is a Nokia sponsored resource providing latest news, comment and feedback on all things about Nokia from around the world. Since I became active on twitter, I wasn’t an exception to follow them. I follow many bloggers too. I saw WOMWorld/Nokia sending trial Nokia devices to many bloggers, developers and some non-geeks too! I recently started blogging and wanted to try some Nokia too but I was afraid to ask as my blog is quite new and so I left the thought of asking for one review unit.

Later I got some issue with my Nokia N8 in USB port and went to Nokia Care. Due to design of N8, they have to send my N8 to Delhi for about 12 days. I refused to give for now as all my spare phones were not working and phones are something I depends a lot these days. I thought “why not try to ask for a review unit from WOMWorld/Nokia? ” and I explained the situation and asked for a review unit. I mailed on weekends. I waited for couple of days but no reply! I thought I wont be getting one. But on this great monday, I received a mail from them and I was quite surprised to read the mail. They were late  (not actually late) to reply because it was weekends. This was what written in it:

Hi Kishan

We can definitely get you something to trial at least while your N8 is being repaired. The question is which would you like? At the moment we have the C7, E7, N8, X7, and E7 available. Also some BH-905i or Nokia 806’s accessories to go with the phone.

Let me know which phone you would like and we’ll take it from there.

Thanks,
Paul

Can you imaging, you will get choice of such high end phones? And the unexpected offer of having such a great headsets with phones without even asking for it too! Man, they really won my heart today. Have you ever saw any company like this?

I asked for one review unit of simple accessory from a company (can’t mension their name, sorry) and their first question was “Can you please send us the visitors stats of your site” and it was obvious to fail here for a new blogger like me. While WOMWorld/Nokia, without asking for anything about my blogging site’s stats, replied that mail so greatly! I really thank them for such an awesome response.

All I wanna say is THIS IS WHY I LOVE NOKIA! And after this post if you call me a fanboi, who cares? These points are enough for me to love a company! Thank you all at Nokia and WOMWorld/Nokia, especially Paul. 🙂

NOTE TO OTHER COMPANIES: Learn From Nokia, guys! 😛

UPDATE: Even before I publish this post, I received another mail from them with agreement form for all formalities to get device and here we go. Hurrrray.. 😀
